  Dr. Jerry Baluta, DDS

  Dr. Jerry Baluta graduated from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Dentistry in 1987 and is proud to have spent 30 years practicing in his home town of Winnipeg with 28 of those years as owner of Odyssey Dental Care located in Transcona.

  Dr. Baluta will build a treatment plan for you that will meet your oral health needs whether they be simple or complicated restorative plans, braces, Invisalign® or anything in between.

  He is a Member of the Canadian Dental Association, Manitoba Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and the International Association of Orthodontics.

  When not taking care of his patients, Dr. Baluta is a Clinical Instructor at U of M College of Dentistry for the last 10 years, a Chair of the Communications Committee at the Manitoba Dental Association (MDA) and he is also a member of the board at the Ukrainian Cultural and Education Centre.

  He was honored to be the Recipient of the President’s Award of Merit from the MDA in 2017 for his long-term volunteer work and chairmanship of the Open Wide program at the MDA.

  Dr. Baluta is married to his wife Olga and has 5 grown children all pursuing their individual passions. When Jerry has time to get out and enjoy the outdoors, he is an avid cyclist and golfer.

  Dr. David Dacombe, DMD

  Dr. David Dacombe graduated with a Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Manitoba in 2015 with Dean’s Honours. Dr. Dacombe is passionate about all aspects of dentistry, especially enjoying oral surgery and endodontics, and he is actively pursuing additional continuing education opportunities in these areas.

  He cares greatly for the well-being of each and every patient, and stresses the importance of ensuring his patients are well informed and understand the procedures required before the work even begins. He strives to provide a comfortable experience to help alleviate any patient anxiety and will calmly and patiently work with patients who commonly struggle with this.

  Having been raised just outside the city in West Saint Paul, he is glad to continue to call it home and serve the surrounding community of Winnipeg. When he is not practicing dentistry, Dr. Dacombe loves to spend valuable family time with his wife Amanda and their daughter Adeline, as well as completing various woodworking projects and taking care of his family’s acreage.

  Dr. Cheryl Bacala, DDS

  Dr. Cheryl Bacala graduated from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Dentistry in 2002 and has been practising dentistry at Odyssey Dental Caresince then.

  She has been offering Invisalign® as an option for straightening teeth for 13 years.

  Outside of work, Dr. Bacala enjoys acting in the All Dentist Musical that runs every two years of which the proceeds go to charities. She also enjoys spending time with her three beautiful girls.

  Dr. Katie Cook, DDS

  Dr. Katie Cook graduated from Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry and has been practicing at Odyssey Dental Care since 2019. Born and raised in Transcona she is thrilled to be serving the community she calls home. Dr. Katie practices all aspects of general dentistry including childrens’ dentistry, restorative, and prosthodontics (dentures, crowns, bridges).

  Dr. Katie graduated high school from Collège Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau, after which she continued her French education in undergraduate sciences studies at Université de Saint Boniface before attending the University of Manitoba to obtain her degree in Doctor of Dental Medicine.

  Dr. Katie loves to be a part of many organizations and takes pride in volunteering and planning events centered around oral health such as Brushfest and Sharing Smiles Day. As a student she was an executive member of The Manitoba Dental Student Association and is currently looking forward to getting involved with more organized dentistry.

  On holidays, Dr. Katie loves to explore the world with her colleague and fellow adventurer Dr. Mikaela. In her spare time at home, she enjoys playing on both volleyball and soccer teams as well as walking her dog, Bob around Transcona.

  Dr. Mikaela Nykoluk, DDS

  Dr. Mikaela Nykoluk graduated from the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, joining the Odyssey Dental Care team in 2019. Dr. Mikaela enjoys practicing all aspects of dentistry including restorative, endodontics and crown and bridge.

  Prior to discovering her passion for dentistry, Dr. Mikaela worked as a research lab technician at the National Microbiology Lab after graduating with a degree in Microbiology from the University of Manitoba.

  During dental school, Dr. Mikaela took pride in being active in the community volunteering at events to promote oral health such as Sharing Smiles Day, Brushfest, Teddy Bears' Picnic, and Oral Cancer Screenings, as well as volunteering with her classmates at Siloam Mission. She looks forward to maintaining a connection to the community through future volunteer endeavours.

  Outside of work Dr. Mikaela enjoys running; specifically in the annual WFPS and Manitoba half marathons, travelling with her good friend and colleague Dr. Katie, and continuing her personal mission to win a game of Settlers of Catan.
